Laskiainen, celebrated in February (seven weeks before Easter) as Finnish Shrove Tuesday, is a "mid-winter sliding festival" marking the start of Lent. It merges Christian traditions with pagan customs, focusing on sledding for good luck, eating pea soup, and enjoying pastries called laskiaispulla.
